The summer is almost here, which means that it is time to start thinking about water safety.

There’s nothing like taking a cool, refreshing dip in the water when the heat is in full swing, but for parents with small children, swimming also comes with risks. Kids drown all too often in the United States, and that’s why, in our last blog, our child care experts in Columbia went over a couple of helpful tips to keep your kids safe in the water this summer. Keep reading for more water safety tips for your kids:

#3. Never leave your kids alone in the water.

It doesn’t take long for a child to drown, so it’s important to always watch your children when they are in the water, even if it is just in a kiddie pool. Not only is it important to physically be there when your kids are swimming, but you need to mentally be there as well. That means that you need to leave your cell phone, magazines and all other distractions by the wayside.

#4. Deflate and store all pool toys.

Some pool toys can actually pose a drowning risk, so it’s important not to leave them around when you and your children aren’t playing with them. Always deflate your pool toys and store them in a place where your kids can’t get to them.
