Water is incredibly important for kids, but it’s not always easy to get your kids to drink it.

With so many tasty sodas, fruit juices and sports drinks, it’s no wonder why many parents have a hard time getting their children to drink water. Not only can switching to water help prevent diabetes, obesity and cavities, water is essential for your child’s development. At A World of Discoveries, our child care experts in Columbia know how difficult it can be to get your child to drink water. Check out our last blog for a few helpful tips to encourage your child to drink more water, and keep reading to learn more:

#4. Add some flavor.

Water can taste plain and boring after those sugar-packed beverages, but there are lots of great ways to flavor your child’s water. Cut up fruit, like strawberries, pineapple and cucumbers to put in your child’s water. You can also add delicious herbs, like basil and mint.

#5. Try sparkling water.

If your child is used to drinking soda, he or she may drink more water if you choose sparkling water. Sparkling water comes in many different flavors, and some of them, like lemon-lime and orange, are even reminiscent of soda.

#6. Be a role model.

Kids emulate their parents in almost everything they do, and your drinking habits are no exception. If you drink soda and other sweet beverages, your children are likely to do the same. Lead by example, and stick with water!
