There are plenty of things you can do to encourage your child to take good care of his or her mouth.
Have you had a chance to read our Columbia child care expert’s latest blog yet? If so, then you already know why it is so important to properly care for your child’s teeth. We also went over a few things you can do to prevent tooth decay in your child, but one of the most important things that you can do is to teach your child healthy oral care habits. The following is a list of ways to encourage your child to brush and floss their teeth:
#1. Make it a family event.
Kids often learn something new by watching their parents do it, so set a good example and brush your teeth when your child does! Not only will this encourage your child to take care of their teeth, but it will also encourage them to do so correctly.
#2. Let your child pick out their own toothbrush, floss and toothpaste.
Kids love things with their favorite characters or colors on them, and if you let them pick out their own toothbrush, floss and toothpaste, they may even be excited to take care of their teeth!
#3. Use videos and books to teach the importance of brushing their teeth.
It can really help if you can get your child to understand why brushing and flossing is so important in the first place. There are many books and videos made for kids that can help your child understand why they need to care for their teeth.
